GermaPal Workshop 2026: Parliamentary language in the Bundestag

GermaParl offers unique access to more than seven decades of German parliamentary debates and opens up a wide range of possibilities for research and teaching. At the first GermaParl Workshop at the NRW School of Governance in April 2026, users of the resource will come together to gain insights into their work and to network.

In the German Bundestag, government and opposition come face to face, debating the full spectrum of political issues. The plenary chamber of the Bundestag is a central institution of the parliamentary democracy of the Federal Republic of Germany. GermaParl, as a corpus of plenary debates, covers parliamentary proceedings from 1949 to 2025 — from Adenauer to the “Zeitenwende.”

GermaParl is maintained by the PolMine Project at the NRW School of Governance. This resource enables researchers to address a wide range of questions from diverse theoretical and disciplinary perspectives. Comprehensive, consolidated metadata, rich linguistic annotations, and a long temporal span make both qualitative studies and quantitative, longitudinal analyses possible. Through continuous maintenance and expansion, a community has formed in recent years that actively uses GermaParl for research and teaching.

On April 16 and 17, 2026, we invite the GermaParl community of researchers, instructors, students, and other interested participants to the first GermaParl Workshop at the NRW School of Governance. The goal is to provide an in‑depth look at the possibilities of working with GermaParl, including the (further) development of the resource and opportunities for exchange. Topical panels will be complemented by a supporting program that offers additional networking opportunities.
