"Improving access to schools and data from school surveys for empirical educational research"

On the 16th of October 2025, the Society for Empirical Educational Research (GEBF) published a position paper on the topic of “Improving access to schools and data from school surveys for empirical educational research” – with three guidelines for members of the academic association. Among other things, the paper deals with how access to and use of existing research data can be strengthened.

In this regard, the GEBF mentions the following points::

  • Make greater use of secondary data
  • Reward the sharing of research data
  • Check whether research questions can be answered with existing or externally collected data
  • Expand the range of data available for educational research
  • Minimise ethical and legal uncertainties and requirements

The detailed announcement and further information are available on the GEBF website.
