Report on the 77th Meeting of the German Data Forum

The 77th meeting of the RatSWD marked the start of its 9th appointment period. The focus of the inaugural meeting was on getting to know one another and defining the key areas of work for the next three years.

Following the opening of the meeting by Dr. Katharina Pijnenburg (Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space, BMFTR), the members of the RatSWD elected Dr. Daniel Vorgrimler (Federal Statistical Office) as their chair. The meeting then focused entirely on generating new impetus for the further development of the data infrastructure. Through interactive sessions, the council members defined key thematic priorities – including the resilience of data sets and improved cross-sectoral linkability of data – for their future work on the advisory board. In addition to discussions on the current status of the Research Data Act and the structure of the planned German Centre for Microdata (DZM), the new federal-state agreement on the funding of the National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI) was also on the agenda. Together with Prof. Dr. Christof Wolf and Dr. Bernhard Miller (both from KonsortSWD – NFDI4Society), the RatSWD discussed the future of the NFDI. The members also addressed the issue of closer integration between the RatSWD and the Association of Social Science Institutes (Arbeitsgemeinschaft Sozialwissenschaftlicher Institute e.V., ASI).
