New recommendation: Standardized naming of data for more clarity

The FDI Committee presents new recommendations to make naming of data products in research data centres clearer and easier to understand.

The FDI Committee has published a new recommendation on the standardized naming of data products. This recommendation aims to improve the clarity and comprehensibility of data products offered by research data centres (RDCs). The proposed designations are based on the dimensions of intended use (public use, campus use, scientific use) and access path (off-site, remote, on-site).

The recommendation is aimed at existing RDCs and those currently being set up, as well as other stakeholders in the provision of research data, and is intended to help revise historically evolved, often unclear designations and establish a standard for a more uniform designation within the German research data infrastructure.
